Overview of the editorial process. Gain competency of basic tools and tasks of copyediting. Course covers: conventional marks & symbols, use of style manuals & reference books, creation of style sheets, querying authors & project editors, permissions.
Addresses more complex aspects of copyediting & finer points of editorial style for book-length manuscripts. Practice with three levels of copyediting (i.e. light, medium, heavy) and editing with difference style manuals. Course covers: codes & type specifications, photos & artwork, tables, and references & footnotes.
Focuses on two phases of substantive editing: line editing and developmental editing. Gain working knowledge of how to work with authors, art of proposing editorial changes. Course covers: editing for clarity and concision, identifying problems of cohesion and logical flow, refining an author's style.
Trained to counselor victims and survivors of violence. Training covers legal & criminal justice system, medical issues, child abuse & incest, crisis intervention & counseling techniques, domestic violence, cultural competency, and more. Monthly in-service continuing education workshops mandatory to maintain certification status.
